The Manson Volunteer Fire Department responded to a blaze Friday night along Wapato Lake Road near Roses Avenue. When crews arrived, the wind driven brush fire was estimated to be about a quarter acre but stiff wind conditions resulted in a “Second Alarm” which triggers support from Chelan, Entiat, Orondo, Wenatchee and East Wenatchee. Eventually the fire escalated to approximately 10 acres before containment.
The fire burned in grass and large brush along a steep slope. Manson Fire says there were no homes in danger, but it was burning near a structure. According to the department’s Facebook, early indications are that a transformer caused the fire.
Officials predict this could be a significant fire season and want to remind the community about the burn ban and other fire safety regulations.
