It’s time to sport those cowboy hats, spurred boots and oversized belt buckles! Lake Chelan Pro Rodeo is returning for its fourth year to deliver another weekend of exhilarating rodeo action, the kind that Chelan rodeo fans have come to enjoy.
With its fast-paced action and heart-pounding moments, this year’s rodeo will offer spectators an adrenaline rush like no other. Both nights will kick off with a grand entry that will include the ever-popular Wild Card Trick Riders performing their awe-inspiring and gravity-defying acrobatic stunts while riding a galloping horse around the arena.
Rodeo royalty from mostly Washington cities also will join the evenings’ events representing the rodeo communities of Omak, Chelan County, Othello, Wenatchee, Coulee City and Lewiston, Idaho to name a few.
And of course, there will be plenty of steer wrestling, roping, saddle-bronc and bull riding and much more.
“We’re expecting over 100 contestants to compete in this year’s Chelan rodeo.” said Jodie Southwick, vice president of the Chelan Rustlers Saddle Club and co-chair of the Lake Chelan Pro Rodeo. “These PRCA champions come in from all around the US and Canada and really know how to put on a show.”
Other fun-filled events will be taking place throughout the weekend in addition to the usual rodeo excitement. Younger rodeo hopefuls can spend time in the activities area where they can test out their roping skills, learn about saddles or try their hand at a few games. The world-famous Chicken Chase will be offered both nights where kids from ages 2 to 10 years old will attempt to capture any one of several loose chickens running wildly inside the arena.
The newly added Steer Scramble event is the perfect adult challenge for those souls brave enough to chase after an elusive steer.
And it wouldn’t be a rodeo without a Barrelman. This year’s pro rodeo will welcome the talented Barrelman and Entertainer, Brandon Dunn, whose hilarious antics will have the audience laughing while he keeps the bull riders safe from the bulls.
“We’re thrilled to have Brandon as part of our rodeo entertainment this year.” said Cheyenne Stocker, chairwoman of the Lake Chelan Pro Rodeo and Rustlers Saddle Club board member. “As a longtime bullfighter and professional rodeo clown, he’s become a crowd favorite wherever he goes. Folks will not be disappointed.”
Dunn will also entertain spectators at this year’s Rodeo Parade scheduled for Saturday morning, July 20 at 10:00 a.m. in downtown Chelan.
Several clothing and gift stands will be on hand for those seeking some rodeo memorabilia or that unique gift item. The rock-n-roll band RADIO 80 will wrap things up with their famous blend of 80’s style music immediately following the conclusion of Saturday night’s rodeo performances.
“We’re excited about this year’s rodeo season.” said Southwick. “It will be rodeo at full-throttle, Chelan’s wildest show on dirt and exactly what our fans want.”
