Valuable Links to online education and entertainment options

Information from North Central Regional Library

Dear Library Customer:  While we remain closed for the time being, we’re looking forward to serving you in our public libraries again soon. In anticipation, our team is developing a detailed plan for reopening that protects the health of our patrons and staff while making vital resources available. It will align with the Governor’s phased approach, and will include a slow return to normal, with some services being provided before others. I will share more details as they become available.

In the meantime, let me highlight the ways we have expanded our digital services to continue to serve you while we remain closed:

Anyone in our five-county service area can now get an instant-access library card (eCard) to immediately begin using our vast array of online resources.

We have temporarily lifted restrictions and extended expiration dates on existing accounts so that everyone with a library card can gain access to online resources.

We have extended all due dates on physical items to June 30.

We redesigned the  homepage of our website (NCRL.org) to highlight digital recommendations for every age level and a few of our most popular resources, including the New York TimesRosetta Stone language learning, RB Digital MagazinesLinkedIn Learning with Lynda.com, and more.

We increased the number of eBooks, audiobooks, movies, music, and tv shows that you can borrow on our popular  OverDrive and Hoopla platforms

We are offering personalized book recommendations through a form on our website and through a weekly session on our Facebook Page.

We are continually developing virtual programming, with new content added daily on our website and Facebook pages.. This includes bilingual storytimes, STEM projects with household items, a Wellness Wednesdays series with local naturopath Dr. Allegra Hart, a virtual book club, and much more.

We are researching, curating, and sharing important and timely resources about Census 2020, job search, unemployment access, homeschooling, and self-improvement. We’re also featuring engaging learning opportunities for all ages, including virtual tours of zoos, museums, and National Parks.

As you explore these new online features I encourage you to take advantage of our new virtual chat feature or call-in technical support phone services, available for anyone needing help using online resources. Click here for more information about these services and other ways you can connect with us during our closure.

We hope you enjoy discovering new ways to engage with your library and are able to take advantage of some of these expanded services. When we turn the page on this chapter, we’ll be ready to welcome you back in our libraries to serve you in person. Until then, we’re looking forward to connecting with you online through our website and on Facebook.

Sincerely,

Barbara Walters
