To further their goals of becoming the global riversurf headquarters, Lakeside Surf has added a second event to the annual calendar and made this one available to anyone and everyone.
The first ever Battle of the Butte will take place June 28 & 29 and is designed for any surfer with a competitive spirit. With male and female categories in four different divisions, surfers of all ages can compete against their peers for a place on top of the podium. The biggest prize being awarded is an invitation to Team USA for the 2024 Continental Surf Cup going to the winners of the ‘Open’ division.
“This event was created to generate some fun competition between surfers of all ages and skill levels, where anyone who riversurfs can come experience a heat-based riversurf competition, just like you’ve seen in the Continental Surf Cup,” Lakeside Surf Manager Jared Eygabroad said. “Our main goal is to promote the sport of riversurfing, while also offering an exciting competition for surfers and spectators alike.”
The two-day event will feature a Friday night session that will electrify and energize the crowd as the competitors vie for the Best Trick Trophy and the Super Groms (10-13 year olds) battle for a podium finish. Saturday will feature the Groms (14-17), Prime (18-44), Masters (45+) and the Open divisions surfing to advance to the evening finals and claim a spot on the podium. Friday night surfing is set for 6pm-9:30 and Saturday’s heats are slated for 8:30am-7pm.
An event designed for any surfing enthusiast, the Battle of the Butte hopes to give surfers a place to put their skills to the test, experience the thrill of competition and spend a weekend having fun. This layback event is less winner take all and more everybody wins. The primary goal of the event is to spread the joy of river surfing, giving surfers a new and fun experience and exposing more surfers and spectators to the incredible scene and atmosphere that is being cultivated at Lakeside Surf.
Spots for each division are limited, so interested surfers should jump on registration. Registration is $50 and guarantees the competitor: a shared 90-minute warm-up session, at least one competitive heat and an event t-shirt. While surfers can only sign up for one age division, they can add to their weekend by also registering for the Best Trick competition. For $30, Best Trick competitors are guaranteed a shared 60-minute warm-up and at least one competitive heat.
