At the Tuesday night meeting of the Lake Chelan School Board, Barry DePaoli announced his retirement as Superintendent bringing to an end a 22 year affiliation with the District. The resignation will take effect June 30th of this year.

DePauli has held the Superintendent position for six years and prior to that served as Principal at both Morgan Owings Elementary and the high school. Overall, he has spent 35 years in the education profession.

In his retirement letter that he read to the Board, Barry stated that “it has been a privilege to work with some of the brightest, most compassionate, and highly committed administrators, teachers, staff, and students”.

He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to provide leadership at both the building and the district level. He indicated that perhaps his greatest reward was the fact that he got to know so many amazing young people.

DePaoli commented that “having a front row seat watching students grow and reach for their goals was the gift of a lifetime.” Meanwhile, the District has moved to contract with Northwest Leadership Associates to begin the search for a new Superintendent.

DePaoli said he and his wife Jacque will continue to reside in Chelan and that they will be supportive of the school district and the community. He also thanked past and present Board members for their insights, advocacy and support and for providing him with the opportunity to develop as a District leader.

As for the future, Barry said he intends to spend more time with family and to pursue hobbies such as boating, biking, woodworking and travel.
