Boats on Display Friday night at Manson Street Show
by Dennis Rahm
The rumble of boats will resonate on the waters of Lake Chelan this Saturday during the Annual Poker Run sponsored by the Lake Chelan Boating Club. The event is the club’s largest fundraiser and more than 50 boats are expected to participate.
The run is open to all variety of boats and crews, but always attracts a number of the larger off-shore style of watercraft. Participants will make five stops at designated locations along the lake to collect their cards in hopes of coming up with the winning poker hand.
The popular Poker Run Street Show will be held on Friday evening in downtown Manson and will provide an opportunity for the public to view many of the boats up close. Also featured will be a photo booth and an opportunity to contribute cash or non-perishable food items for the local food bank. Friday night will then conclude with a welcome party at My Buddy’s Place starting at 9 pm.
On Saturday Poker Run participants will have a breakfast at the Lake Chelan Boating Club facilities adjacent to Mill Bay Park before making their way up the lake around 11:30 am.
Before heading back to Manson to turn in their poker hands, a lunch stop is made at the Boat Club’s Lucerne facilities.
This year’s theme is “the Rockin 80’s”, and the event will wrap up back at the Boat Club in Manson with dinner, door prizes and a costume party.
The Lake Chelan Poker Run began in 2001 and was handed off to the Boating Club in 2007. The highly successful event is the organization’s top fund raising activity and allows the club to support a number of community programs and events such as the LCBC scholarship fund, boater safety and information classes, swim lessons, Manson Apple Blossom, community fireworks shows and more.
