Just a reminder to winter season outdoor recreationalists: although winter is a spectacular time to enjoy the great outdoors, rapidly changing temperatures, snow and ice can have an immediate impact on roads and trails.

Most national forest roads are not plowed during the wintertime. Many roads are closed to four-wheeled vehicles and groomed for over the snow recreation activities–snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding, etc.

Conditions on forest roads can change fast. Be prepared for winter weather by carrying winter traction devices, a shovel, extra food and clothing, and a map. Don’t test fate, turn around before road conditions deteriorate beyond your and your vehicle’s capabilities.

For more information about trail and road conditions in the Wenatchee-Okanogan forests, contact the local ranger district.
