Norm Evans Memorial Apple Cup Regatta May 4-5

by Dennis Rahm

Don Morse Park in Chelan will be a hub of activity this weekend as hydroplane racing returns to the shores of Lake Chelan. The Norm Evans Apple Cup Regatta will feature 30-40 limited class boats with racing scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

The event is sponsored by the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce and hosted by the Seattle Inboard Racing Association. Race Director Gordy Cole is expecting boats in several of the most popular “limited” classifications including Grand National, Crackers Box, the new E-350 class and the highly popular Vintage boats.

One of the event organizers, Chelan’s Mitch Evans, reminds the viewing public that the races are free to attend. There is a charge for a pit pass which can be acquired on-site. As long as wind doesn’t become an issue, racing is scheduled both days from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
