Looking for ways to increase comfort and save on your power bill? Chelan PUD’s Josh Mitchell is the guy to call.

Mitchell, residential energy adviser, helps customers save energy in their homes and apartments. Even better, he makes house calls!

He troubleshoots problems, develops rebate programs to make energy-efficiency improvements affordable, and helps set PUD conservation goals.

His willingness to work with customers and with colleagues from around the Northwest earned him honors for promoting energy efficiency in consumer products.

Mitchell, the PUD’s residential energy adviser, was among several Northwest utility leaders receiving the Leadership in Energy Efficiency Award for Collaboration. The Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEAA) honored winners at its annual meeting in Portland on Dec. 4.

Mitchell and 12 colleagues from Washington, Oregon and Idaho met throughout 2019.

“It’s great to work with other people who are passionate about energy efficiency, getting consumers products that will save energy and money and keeping them available in the market,” Mitchell said. “Specifically, this group worked to make sure smart thermostats save energy in customers’ homes, rather than become a black box that we put on the wall and just hope it is doing what it is designed to do.”

He joined Chelan PUD in 2015 from Puget Sound Energy, where he did similar work with residential and commercial customers. An avid outdoorsman, his resume includes time selling bikes at REI and teaching school kids about the environment.

A panel of Northwest energy and utility leaders selected the award winners.

The Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA) is made up of more than 140 utilities and organizations working on behalf of more than 13 million energy consumers. NEEA works with manufacturers, retailers, utilities and consumers to advance adoption of energy-efficient products, services and practices.

Chelan PUD’s energy-saving programs have saved about 19 average megawatts since 2010, enough to power nearly 8,000 county homes.
