The Chelan County Fire Marshal’s Office is passing along a few must-dos if you are considering burning yard debris.

As a reminder, in the unincorporated areas of Chelan County, outdoor burning is allowed until June 1; however, the burning of yard debris is not allowed in the urban growth area.

*Before burning, call the Washington Department of Ecology’s Daily Burn Decision for general guidance at 800-406-5322 (press Option 1 then Option 2 for Chelan County). No burning is allowed if wind speeds exceed 10 mph. Never burn if wind gusts are forecast.

*While the burning of natural vegetation is allowed, the burning of garbage or building debris is not. The maximum pile size for burning vegetation is 4 feet by 4 feet. An area of 10 feet around the pile must be clear of combustible material.

*Always have at least one person attending the burn pile and provide them with a means (shovels and water) to control the fire or put out spot fires.

*No household trash or garbage can be burned outdoors at residences at any time, regardless of whether you live in or outside of an urban growth area. Burn barrels are illegal.

Below are the outdoor burning regulations for Chelan County.
