The Chelan Goats and Cashmere Bulldogs renewed their rivalry in a highly anticipated non-league matchup between two of the top volleyball programs in the state. With Chelan ranked No. 2 and Cashmere ranked No. 3, the energy was high as the teams met for the first time since last year’s district championship. The Goats proved why they are among the elite, earning a hard-fought sweep over the Bulldogs with scores of 25-17, 25-23, 25-21.

Chelan was led by an explosive performance from Brynn Hughbanks, who tallied an impressive 27 kills to pace the Goats’ offense. Brooklyn Foyle set the tone at the net, recording 32 assists to guide the attack. On defense, Jayzee Hughbanks anchored the back row with 11 digs, followed closely by Marley Williams (10) and Brynn (8).

The Goats also spread the effort across the board with timely contributions:

  • Kills: Marley Williams 6, Esther Petersen 2, Brooklyn Foyle 2, Faryn Huewe 1
  • Digs: Brooklyn Foyle 6, Alison Horner 6, Gracie Gilsoul 2
  • Aces: Gracie Gilsoul 1, Jayzee Hughbanks 1, Marley Williams 1, Brooklyn Foyle 1
  • Blocks: Grace Roberts 1, Esther Petersen 1

Head coach Abby Lewellen praised her team’s composure and execution against such a tough opponent:

“It was awesome to see this team step up in a game like this. Kudos to a very talented Cashmere team who really pushed us, but in the end our consistent serve and serve receive allowed us to compete at a high level and ultimately come out on top.”

With the win, Chelan strengthens its case as one of the top programs in the state. These two teams will likely see each other again in the postseason, with another clash possible in both the district and state tournaments.

The Goats travel to Cascade today to continue CTL play and then head up to Bellingham on Saturday to take on Meridian and Nooksack Valley, 2 – 1A schools known for their volleyball capabilities!
