Friday night, the Goats battled against the Omak Pioneers in their first CTL matchup of the season. Both teams came out hard with the ball going back and forth to each end of the field. At half the game was tied 0-0 and the Goats knew they would continue to battle. Unfortunately, the slightly more experienced Pioneers were able to sneak a goal in shortly into the second half giving them the go-ahead goal. As the second half was closing in the Goats continued to press the goal getting some decent chances on goal. The pioneers were able to get a ball in past the Goats defense and get the second and final goal of the game.
The Goats, who are a young team starting 4 freshman and 4 sophomores, know that they have some work to be done. However, they have a very positive attitude and are willing to put in the work to make this season a great one.
Two standout players of the game are Madeline Cowan and Jazmin Valdavinos who pressed and worked to make plays happen the entire game.
The Goats JV played a modified 8v8 game following the Varsity match. This was the opening game for the JV, as they are still missing a few players who will be eligible for the next match. The Goats came out with force as they attacked the goal. Angela Rios stepped up for the Goats and dawned the gloves as the goalkeeper for the evening. With only one day of keeper training under her belt she made spectacular save after save. The Goats fell 2-0 to the JV Pioneer with the game ending early due to injuries.
Both teams put in a tremendous effort in both of the games this evening. They will both be on the pitch again this Saturday as the Bush school will be traveling from Seattle for a non-league friendly. Come cheer on both the JV and Varsity girls with games at 2pm and 4pm. GO GOATS!
