Weekend activities set for Chelan and Manson

by Dennis Rahm

The last few weeks in the Lake Chelan Valley have offered up a return to community events and activities including hydroplane races and Manson Apple Blossom. This weekend will feature events centered around cars and hiking.

Friday afternoon marks the beginning of the two-day Manson Rat Rod Show. The 5th annual event is sponsored by the Manson Chamber of Commerce and will kick off Friday at 3 pm with a registration party at WineGirl Wines.

The rat rods will be on display in downtown Manson through Saturday. Rat rods are defined as a style of hot rod or custom vehicle that imitates early hot rods from the 1940’s to the 1960’s. Most of vehicles aren’t completely finished and are built from junkyard scraps. For more information on the event visit the chamber website: moretomanson.com.

With great weather in the forecast, it’s also the perfect time to get out and go for a walk. With that in mind, the public is invited to be amongst the first to hike the recently completed upper trails of Chelan River Gorge Reach Trail system.

The grand opening of the new upper gorge trails takes place this Saturday and Sunday. The trail network offers over two miles of new single-track along the Chelan River. The Lake Chelan Trails Alliance is asking for help in spreading the word about what they call “a new local gem”. LCTA is hosting a self-supported run/walk of varying distances throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday. Don’t forget to snap some pics and post to your social media accounts with the hashtag #lakechelantrailsalliance.

To access the trail system from downtown Chelan, drive west on 97a across the Dan Gordon Bridge. Turn left onto Farnham Street. Follow the street as it turns into S. Sanders St. and then E. Iowa Street. Park at the trailhead on your left.

Enjoy your weekend!
