State Allocates nearly $200,000 towards the $500,000 goal

Manson Grange Members recently received a big boost towards their half-million dollar renovation goal. The State Legislature allocated $193,000 from the capital budget to support the effort. That investment brought the total raised to $250,000 – roughly half of the total needed to complete a much needed renovation that includes accessible restrooms, ramp access to the upper and lower floors, as well as a new HVAC system and other improvements to safety and functionality of the facility.

Half-way there, and enough to get started, but still a long road ahead. And you can help.

About the Grange

The Manson Grange has been a community icon since it’s organization in 1923 with 48 members. In 1930, a vote was taken to build a new Grange Hall. The current site of the Manson Grange Hall was purchased in 1936 through community donations and the property was paid in full in two years. In March of 1947 the basement was dug and on April 3, 1948 the new Grange Hall was dedicated.

Through the years, it has hosted events and activities ranging from quilt shows to pancake breakfasts, from youth fairs to dances and potlucks. It has been home to anniversary parties and birthday celebrations, town hall meetings, and much, much more.

Grange Members are working hard to ensure the Grange remains the cornerstone of Manson. They are in the process of securing grants, building a fundraising campaign and pursuing donations for the seven phases of a capital improvement project.

Seven Phases of Renovation:

  • Phase 1 – Basement Restrooms. Renovate the two existing bathrooms and modify for universally accessible access – Update 75-year old sewer/plumbing lines. $45,000
  • Phase 2 – New HVAC System. Replace basement furnace/AC, basement windows, and upstairs heat pump – $38,000
  • Phase 3 – Accessible Ramp Roof. Construct a roof over the accessible ramp – $48,000
  • Phase 4 – Accessible Ramp. Construct two hundred feet of accessible ramps to provide accessibility to each floor – $187,000
  • Phase 5 – Upstairs Restrooms. Enlarge and replace the existing bathroom and add an additional bathroom – $39,000
  • Phase 6 – Interior Finishes. Refinish upstairs wood floor, replace basement carpet, refinish wood trim and wainscoting – $66,000
  • Phase 7 – Front Entry Updates. Remove barriers to entry, improve lighting, install handrails and paint exterior – $50,000

Each phase of the Grange revitalization is designed to be either a stand alone project or combined with another phase depending on the budget.
