The planned burning of a two-story home on South Lakeshore Road served as a hands-on training experience last Saturday for firefighters from Chelan and Entiat. The Manson Fire Department joined with Chelan Fire and Rescue in planning and executing the exercise.

Assistant Chief Brandon Asher of Chelan Fire and Rescue, said hands-on training opportunities are extremely useful in gaining experience in how to fight a structure fire by providing a realistic situation in a controlled environment.

Firefighters on Saturday were divided into four groups that included a primary attack team, backup team, rapid intervention crew, and a rehab team. Not only was there training on fighting the fire, but instruction was also provided on various rescue scenarios prior to the house being burned.

Asher said local fire departments currently have a significant need of volunteers at a number of fire stations in the area. For those interested in volunteering, or to learn more about the opportunity, contact Asher at 509-682-4476.
