Firefighters slow the fire’s growth despite rugged terrain

At 6:15 PM Saturday evening Orondo Fire responded to the report of wildfire one mile north of Orondo. On arrival units found a fast-moving wildfire running quickly up the steep hillside. Firefighters fought the fire throughout the night slowing the growth of the fire to about 70 acres moving from Orondo Fire’s District to Waterville Fire’s District.

Fire crews responded to a second alarm from agencies throughout the valley as well as Douglas County Sheriff, DNR, BLM and Forest Service with 74 firefighters on the fire.

Firefighters continue to fight the fire today in rugged terrain hitting hot spots and working to contain the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The fire was named the 141 fire.
