Driver of Honda in critical condition

Sheriff Morrison advises on Sunday, March 31, 2024 around 8:00 pm a 2-vehicle, fatality collision occurred in Chelan, WA on SR 150 near Shop Road.

The vehicles involved were a 2005 Honda Accord, driven by 23 yoa Mateo Villa-Morales, and a 2014 Toyota Tundra driven by a 51 yoa male from Pasco, Wa.  The Toyota Tundra was towing a large travel trailer.

Witnesses stated that the Honda Accord was being operated at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a curve, crossing the center line, and colliding head-on with the Toyota Tundra.  The passenger of the Honda Accord, 32 yoa Jose Morales-Rosas, was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver of the Honda Accord, Villa-Morales, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center where he is in critical condition.  The driver and 4 passengers in the Toyota Tundra were transported to Lake Chelan Community Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol was a factor in the collision and Villa-Morales is being investigated for DUI, Vehicular Homicide, and Vehicular Assault.
