Chelan County Sheriff confirms tragic incident

Sheriff Morrison reports a tragic incident involving the death of a local man following a base-jumping accident on Sunday, March 30, 2025.

At approximately 0842 hours, CCSO Deputies were notified of a base-jumping accident near Milepost 202 on Highway 97A. The individual, later identified as 47-year-old Elliot Barstow of Entiat, WA, was in the process of base jumping when his parachute failed to fully open. Witnesses report that this caused Mr. Barstow to spin 180 degrees, subsequently colliding with a rock wall. Tragically, Mr. Barstow fell approximately 650 feet to the ground, resulting in fatal injuries.

Emergency responders were immediately dispatched to the scene, but Mr. Barstow was pronounced deceased at the site of the accident. The Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Barstow during this incredibly difficult time.
