Vehicle crashed into large boulder on US 97

Just after 7:30 am Thursday morning, Orondo Fire responded to an auto accident on US 97 eight miles south of the Beebe Bridge. On arrival incoming units found a badly damaged passenger vehicle in the northbound ditch. The vehicle had crashed at high speed into a large boulder the size of a car with extensive damage.
One victim was trapped in the vehicle. Fire crews were able to extricate the driver with Jaws of life tools. The driver received emergency treatment as the scene.
There were five fire apparatus, two EMS vehicles and 14 emergency responders on scene from Orondo Fire, LCCH EMS and the Washington State Patrol. The WSP is investigating the cause of the accident and is reporting the deceased driver may have had a medical emergency or fell asleep at the wheel.
