Fleeing driver apprehended and charged
information released
On December 16th at approximately 0900 hours, Washington State Patrol (WSP) troopers attempted a traffic stop westbound on State Route 2 near milepost 105 in Chelan County. The driver of a 2008 Black Lincoln MKX failed to stop.
Due to the snowy road conditions, WSP did not pursue the vehicle as it continued south on State Route 97 Blewett Pass. Approximately one mile south from State Route 2, troopers came upon the Lincoln MKX which had been involved in a collision damaging Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) property.
Upon contact, the driver had fled the scene, leaving a rifle inside the vehicle. Upon further investigation, the 2008 Lincoln MKX was reported stolen out of Douglas County.
Chelan County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene; a short K-9 deployment caused the fleeing driver to give up without incident. The 19-year-old driver from Kent, WA was safely booked into the Chelan County Regional jail. Charges will be filed for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of firearms, possession of stolen property, possession of drugs, and Hit and Run.
During the incident, State Route 97 was closed for approximately 30 min.
