information released
The Chelan County Veteran’s Advisory Board, or VAB, seeks three new board members who can commit to six meetings a year. The VAB is an advisory group appointed by the Chelan County Board of Commissioners.
To qualify for consideration:
- Applicants must be an Armed Forces Veteran of any branch of service.
- Applicants must live in Chelan County.
- Applicants must be able to attend most meetings. The board meets every other month, or six times a year. Meetings are 1:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of every other month at the County Administration Building, 400 Douglas St. in Wenatchee.
- Because it’s important to have members of the VAB represent all communities within Chelan County, we are especially interested in potential board members who are residents of the Entiat, Peshastin, Manson and Malaga communities.
- VAB members serve three-year terms.
The VAB is responsible for creating program criteria for the disbursement of County Veteran’s Relief Funds. Veteran’s relief funds are generated from property taxes levied by the Chelan County Board of Commissioners. These funds are governed and defined by RCW 41.04.005 and 41.04.007. The County’s Veteran’s Relief Fund provides for assistance to indigent veterans, their families and the families of deceased indigent veterans. The intent of the Veteran’s Relief Program is to provide model programs that benefit veterans and family members facing financial hardship.
If you are interested in participating as a board member, send a letter of interest noting the community where you reside and whether or not you are a member of any of the Congressionally chartered Veteran’s organizations in Chelan County. Send the letter to Chelan County Veteran’s Service Officer Trent Mortensen at Trent.Mortensen@CO.CHELAN.WA.US. Interested candidates will be taken to the Chelan County commissioners for consideration of appointment.
For more information on the VAB and what the commitment entails, call Trent Mortensen at 509-667-6909.
