Schedule for the Week of Sept. 4

information released

Labor Day Closure: Chelan County offices are closed on Monday, Sept. 4. Because the first Saturday of September falls on a holiday weekend, Drop-Off Saturday at the Moderate Risk Waste Facility will be Sept. 9.

County Road Projects

Pre-Level Starts: Beginning Sept. 5, county road crews will start annual pre-level work on roads scheduled for chip sealing in 2024. The list of roads is available online. Crews will begin in the Leavenworth District and work their way to the Cashmere, Chelan, Entiat and Wenatchee districts, in that order. During pre-level, crews apply a thin layer of asphalt over the road to fill in ruts and low spots. Traffic impacts include one-lane, flagger-controlled traffic in the work zone. Motorists should plan for minor traffic delays, or to avoid the work zone if they can.

Chumstick Highway Phase V:  Paving of the project area is expected to begin on Sept. 5. Paving will take about five working days. During working hours, the road will be at one lane, with flaggers directing traffic. A pilot car also will lead motorists through the work area. Plan for traffic delays of up to 20 minutes, or avoid the area if you can. Outside working hours, the roadway will be at two lanes. Visit the project’s webpage for details of the project, which is between milepost 5.15 to milepost 6.60 (about 7 miles south of Plain).

Goodwin Road/Sunset Road Improvement Project: The contractor is working on final details, such as mailbox installation. The new street lights that will be installed in the city’s portion of the project are not expected to be operational until October because of a delay in the arrival of the poles. More information about the project is on the project’s webpage.

Number 2 Canyon Road Preservation: The contractor will begin construction on Sept. 18. Construction will take about 25 working days. The project will improve the primitive section of Number 2 Canyon Road, between milepost 4.35 and 4.97. Road improvements will include re-establishing the 18- to 20-foot roadway width, smoothing out large ruts, improving drainage and graveling the project area. The work area will be closed to through traffic; it will be open to locals only. Public Works encourages recreationists to stay away from the area while crews are working.

Maintenance plans may change with weather conditions or equipment difficulties. Visit the Public Works website, where the weekly road maintenance information is regularly updated.
