Record number of scholarships awarded to 277 students

The Community Foundation of NCW has awarded $1,282,982 to 277 students across North Central Washington and beyond. This year has set a record in the number of students receiving scholarships.

The Foundation oversees more than 150 scholarships, generously established by individuals, families, and businesses across the region, all committed to helping local students pursue their educational goals. Each scholarship is unique, with donor-defined requirements that may include criteria such as academic performance, community service, or overcoming personal obstacles. These scholarships provide vital assistance to students pursuing higher education, with many aiming to support those facing substantial financial need.

Students apply online using a single application that automatically matches them to scholarships for which they are eligible. This year, over 300 volunteers served on scholarship committees to review and select the final recipients.

“Without our volunteers, the significant impact we make on students’ lives simply wouldn’t be possible,” says Julie Mott, Scholarship Specialist at the Community Foundation. “It’s inspiring to see what can be accomplished when we come together as a community: funding future doctors, musicians, engineers, writers—the list goes on. Our community’s future is strong in large part because of the support we provide to these young people, and I can’t wait to see where their journeys take them.”

The next scholarship application cycle opens January 1st with deadlines of March 1 and June 1. Students will need to complete the FAFSA and collect letters of recommendation, so it is encouraged to start the application process as early as possible.
