The deadline is fast approaching for the public to weigh in on a proposed large-scale development located on a near 85-acre parcel at the base of Chelan Butte between the high school and Slidewaters. Public comments are due by Wednesday, March 21.
The Holiday Hills project is a 250 lot sub-division that proposes:
- 173 townhome lots, each being comprised of from 2-6 units per townhome parcel (346-1,038 total units)
- 5 multi-family apartment buildings with an undisclosed number of units
- 28 parcels at the upper elevation of the site to be designated as single-family housing
- 27 lots devoted to short term rental units or single-family housing
- 15 parcels on the lower portion of the proposed development that are zoned Tourist Accommodation, with identified potential use as hotel, restaurant, condo, and commercial
This is the second Notice of Application (NOA) on the project
The filing period for the initial NOA closed on October 25, 2017, but a clerical error in the filing necessitated the need for the issuance of a revised NOA which was posted on March 7. You can view the relevant documents on the SEPA Register.
Following the first filing period, on November 3, 2017, City of Chelan Planning Director Craig Gildroy wrote to one of the developers involved with Holiday Hills with a request for additional information. The letter was addressed to Dusty Jones, project representative, and noted that the City had determined that additional information was necessary to continue processing the subdivision request.
Seven topics were noted as requiring more information which included an updated Traffic Impact Study, a request to contact the Colville Tribes regarding a Cultural Resource Assessment, Critical Areas Assessment that pertains to demonstrating compliance with the geotechnical evaluations and geologic hazard assessment report, and other identified issues.
LakeChelanNow reached out to the Planning Department to ascertain if any or all of the additional requested items have been supplied. City Planner Craig Gildroy is out of the office until March 26 and others at the Planning department were unavailable on Tuesday, March 20. An attempt to leave a voice message on the Planning Department line was unsuccessful as the message box was full.
LakeChelanNow did speak with City Administrator Mike Jackson, asking for details on whether the Holiday Hills developers had responded to the City’s request dated November 3.
Jackson indicated he would seek to find the answers to our questions and if the information is provided later we will update this story to reflect that information.
The deadline for public comments on the Holiday Hills requested subdivision is this Wednesday, March 21 at the close of business.
All public comments submitted in the first filing period will carry forward. New or additional comments should be directed to the City of Chelan Planning Department at PO Box 1669, Chelan, WA 98816.
Because the timeframe to comment is nearing the deadline, comments can also be emailed to lwilliams@cityofchelan.us or hand delivered to the Planning Department at City Hall before the close of business on March 21st.
