Wise begins five year residency in Orthopedic Surgery
information released
Clare Wise, daughter of Jill R. and Barry M. Wise of Manson, received her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Stanford University on Saturday, June 12. Dr. Wise will stay at Stanford for her five-year residency in Orthopedic Surgery. She entered Stanford in fall of 2017. During her time there she also found time to coach the Stanford Alpine Ski Team and was elected to represent her class to the Stanford Medical Student Association as well as numerous other volunteer and research activities.
Clare attended elementary and middle school in Chelan before moving to Wenatchee to attend Wenatchee High School, graduating in 2010 as one of the class’s valedictorians. Clare raced for the Mission Ridge Ski Team from 2000 to 2012, when she went on to University of Colorado, Boulder, and walked on to the CU Ski Team. Dr. Wise graduated from University of Colorado in 2016 as the outstanding graduate in Bio- and Chemical Engineering, and with her team as two time NCAA National Champions. She was also the recipient of the PAC-12 Leadership Award for her role in representing all 6000 PAC-12 athletes to NCAA.
Clare is an avid skier, cyclist and backpacker and enjoys all manner of outdoor activities. Her interest in orthopedic surgery began in part because of injuries she, and many of her teammates, sustained while ski racing. As an orthopedic surgeon she hopes to work with athletes and non-athletes young and old to enable them to maintain active lives. She is passionate about mentoring and empowering young women to reach their potential in sports and in STEM fields.
