“Project of the Year” Recognized by Association of Public Works and Main Street Program
information released by City of Chelan
The City of Chelan’s Woodin Avenue Bridge Restoration Project was selected as the project of the year in the “Historic Less Than $5 Million” category by the Washington chapter of the Association of Public Works (APWA).
The project was chosen in part for its outstanding coordination, planning, and ingenuity –advancing public works and improving lives throughout the region. In addition to safety improvements, enhancements included widening 1,900 feet of sidewalks, 1,200 feet of new bike lanes, new streetscapes and lighting, and upgrading utilities to accommodate future needs.
Significant upgrades to the adjacent Woodin Avenue Landing Park, which provides access to the downtown from the water, were also wrapped into the efforts. During the bridge project design phase, the Historic Downtown Chelan Association led the momentum to bring the Landing Park back to life. The result is an inviting space for both locals and visitors alike and increased access to Lake Chelan and the existing PUD dock.
The Washington State Main Street Program selected the Landing Park for an Excellence on Main Award in the “Outstanding Special Project” category.
