Decision surprised Chelan Mayor
By Dennis Rahm
The Chelan County Commission on Monday amended an earlier proclamation dealing with the COVID-19 related shutdown on short term rentals and campgrounds, making clear that the ban only applies to unincorporated areas of the county. Chelan officials were of the opinion that the City was included in the County’s earlier emergency proclamation.
Chelan Mayor Bob Goedde tells LakeChelanNow the city wasn’t notified about the change and that he was surprised to read about in the newspaper on Tuesday. Goedde also talks about the likelihood of issuing a City emergency proclamation that will closely mirror what the County has adopted, saying the City Attorney will be working on a draft that may soon be adopted. Mayor Goedde Reacts to County’s Resolution
In addition to the Cities of Chelan, Wenatchee, Entiat, Cashmere and Leavenworth, the newly adopted county proclamation also doesn’t apply to private campgrounds, state or tribal lands in Chelan County.
The County also made changes to the penalty for violations of the ban. Violators may face misdemeanor or gross misdemeanor charges that could result in a fine of up to $5,000 or a jail term of up to 364 days.
The revised County proclamation and related information can be found on their website.
