Bold questions were asked and answered

Information released by Chelan High School

High School Seniors are always encouraged to participate in upcoming elections. Students were recently given voter registration information in their senior advisory classes as we usually do this time of year in order to encourage 18 year old students to register and vote.

This year, Superintendent DePaoli was approached with the idea by one of the candidates to have a debate for students and from there we set up the time and date.  Seniors had the opportunity to develop questions that were relative to them during recent advisory classes and generated all the questions asked during the debate.  We were able to use our advisory time today and 10 minutes of 1st and 2nd periods, so students missed minimal class time.  Teachers noted ongoing conversations between students about the candidates and issues after the event.

CHS is very grateful to Mayor Cooney and Mr. Goedde for taking the time to allow our students to take part in the democratic process and see candidates doing so in a diplomatic and civilized manner!

Editor’s Note: There was a miscommunication regarding the time of the Q&A so LCN and other media representatives arrived too late to document the candidate’s answers. We are providing the questions submitted (those in bold were asked and answered during the forum). We applaud the involvement of the school district and CHS Seniors in the upcoming election and look forward to their continued voice and vote about their community.
