The Candy Flowers released their EP “Mind Folly” last week

by Dennis Rahm

The Candy Flowers, a duo comprised of Chelan High School graduates Jesse Quigley and Kailen Swensen, recently released a five-song Extended Play album titled “Mind Folly”.

Quigley graduated from Chelan in 2010, while Swensen is a member of the class of 2012. The two bandmates first got together musically as the result of participation in Pep Band and Jazz Band at CHS. Mind Folly marks the second recording venture for the two as they put out an earlier EP in 2017 going by the name of Amber Lights.

The new project for The Candy Flowers is completely self produced. The two play all the instruments, share in vocals, wrote and recorded the material, and now will take on the job of promoting the album.

The Quigley name is familiar in the local music scene as The Quigley Trio led by father Dan has performed at a number of venues in the Lake Chelan Valley. “It was a super cool experience to play “live” with my Dad and my brother”, said Jesse.

LakeChelanNow interviews both Quigley and Swenson to get answers to a number of questions ranging from their musical influences to what it’s like to work together.

In part one of the interview we visit with Jesse Quigley.

The other half of The Candy Flowers is Kailen Swensen who spoke with LCN about musical influences, how the album was put together, and a bit about how they hope to market their new album and get it out to the public. Getting airplay is the goal.

The goal for the duo, post COVID, is to add other musicians to the band so that they can play for live audiences and continue to spread the word about their music.
