4th Graders can obtain Free Permit through Every Kid Outdoors Initiative
Information released by Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest
It may seem far away, but Christmas is only eight Mondays from now! If you want to chop your tree in the Okanogan – Wenatchee National Forest, the permits are available starting November 1st.
Christmas tree permits can be purchased online or at participating national forest offices. Permits cost $5 each with a two permit limit per household. Anyone wanting to cut a tree from the national forest must have a permit in hand. Permits purchased online must be printed to be considered valid. Each permit allows a family to cut one tree up to 15 feet high or dig a small transplant tree.
According to Robin DeMario, public affairs specialist, anyone can purchase a Christmas tree permit, but 4th graders participating in the Every Kid Outdoors initiative can get a free permit as part of the annual program to encourage visitation and participation with federal parks and lands.
Christmas Tree permits are available at the Chelan Ranger District Office M-F, 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (closed for lunch 11:30 – 12:30). These permits are only good for the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.
