Chelan Tennis Results for Saturday, March 16

information released by Coach Rothlisberger

The conditions were a huge improvement over the difficult wind in our season opener on Tuesday.  It was calm…but we had some sunburns.

Like our match vs Ephrata on Tuesday, we played the 2A format of 2 singles and 3 doubles because it gave one more Chelan player some varsity reps (8 slots today vs our typical 1A lineup of 7 slots).

Boys:  Chelan 3, East Valley 2

#1 Singles:  Cameron Erb (EV) def Cray Silva 6-2, 6-1

#2 Singles:  Lleyton Fast (EV) def George Neff 6-3, 6-2

#1 Doubles:  Rylen Moody/Tristan Sanderson (C) def Logan Basford/Anthony Spencer 6-2, 2-6, 6-1

#2 Doubles:  Caleb Sanderson/Elijah Moody (C) def Luke Hartman/Alex Bombard 5-7, 6-4, 7-5

#3 Doubles:  Owen Sanderson/Angel Mendez (C) def Sage Wright/Giovanni Munguia 6-1, 6-3

This was a talented East Valley squad that the Goats beat today – likely one of the better programs in the 2A CWAC.  Chelan avenged last year’s loss in exactly the same fashion that the Goats fell last year.  In 2023, Chelan won both singles matches but lost all the doubles.  In 2024, Chelan swept the doubles while EV swept the singles.  Clutch victories by #1 doubles and #2 doubles in the 3rd set after splitting the first two sets.  The overall team score could have gone either way.

Girls:  East Valley 5, Chelan 0

#1 Singles:  Emily Knautz def Ellie McLemore 6-1, 6-2

#2 Singles:  Mai Mesler def Brooklyn Foyle 6-1, 6-3

#1 Doubles: Ceci Mendoza/Jalee Anderson def Estee Flynn/Madeline Cowan 6-4, 6-2

#2 Doubles:  Alyx Dunderhoeffer/Hailey Bombard def Keira Gjerde/Reese Bordner 6-3, 6-1

#3 Doubles:  Delany Gibbons/Allie Fries def Kyla Otom/Madelyn Wallace 6-0, 6-1

The Chelan girls will spend the first half of the season being “out-experienced” but definitely not out-worked.  A combination of graduations and key player absences has put this squad at a disadvantage.  Despite the experience gap, every match remains competitive and attitudes are upbeat and positive.  The varsity rookie girls are gaining valuable match experience that will enable us to finish strong in 2024 and build a solid foundation for the next several years.
