Chelan basketball traveled to Omak Tuesday night and the Pioneers celebrated their Senior Night by posting victories in both Varsity matchups.
In the first game, the Lady Goats lost 45-33 as once again Chelan struggled on offense. Chelan is on a three-game losing streak and over the past four games the Lady Goats haven’t scored more than 38 points. In this game against Omak, reserve Ashley Sams came up big and led the team in scoring with 16 points. The scoring dropped off rapidly from there as the next highest scorer was Katie Rainville who finished with six points.
In the boy’s game, the Goats got behind early against Omak and had to try and overcome a 10 point deficit at the half and ended up losing a close game 64-58. Chelan trailed 21-10 in the first quarter and struggled getting into their offense as they scored only 18 points in the first half and were behind at the half 28-18. The Goats found their offensive rhythm in the second half and made things interesting. After trailing by as many as 14 points in the second half, Chelan was able to mount a run and pull to within three points at 40-37. That was as close as Chelan would get, but the outcome was in doubt until the final minute of play. The Goats were led in scoring by Cade Christopherson who finished with 17 points while Bert Mendevil scored 12 and Quinn Stamps was also in double figures with 10. Coach Jeff Pearl stated “we were way too lackluster to start the game.” Pearl went on to say “we need to do a better job of blocking out teams that are taller than us.” The Goats have now lost five consecutive games.
The schedule doesn’t get any easier for Chelan as both teams will play a league doubleheader Friday night at Cashmere. The girls tip-off at 5:45 p.m. and the boys follow with a 7:15 p.m. scheduled tip-off.
