Erratic winds provide additional challenges on the course

Chelan hosted the Gamble Sands Invitational today with a reduced field of only regional teams (both boys and girls) participating. The wind was much more than predicted, which made for some tough golfing situations, and lots of blowing dust as a result of the fire that went through last year (though with all the green grass, the only real visible evidence of the fire were the areas missing the sagebrush that used to be in some of the areas) though the temperatures were much more pleasant than our Monday match.
Congratulations to Ephrata for winning the boys team division, with a very respectable 353 team score, followed closely by Wenatchee (360). The boys medalist was Jacob Rawley from Ephrata with a 78, followed by Carson Huffaker from Wenatchee (82) and Chelan’s Joey Gasper (jr) with an 84.
On the girls side of things, Wenatchee won the team score with a 419 and, quite literally and figuratively, left everyone else who was able to post a team score “in the dust!” Another Ephrata golfer, Payton Hagy, took medalist honors with a 94, followed by Omak’s Halle Richter (98) and Wenatchee’s Presley Nelson (100).
We look forward to hosting this tournament again next year, and continue to be excited to give our golfers a chance to play on a course rated for the past several years as one of the top 100 courses in the USA! Many thanks to my assistant, Amber Finch, for doing another great job of organizing and running this tournament!
Chelan’s next match will be hosting a “pod” of all the regional 1A schools next Tuesday (4-20) at 1:30 on their home course, Lake Chelan Municipal GC.
