Firefighting training exercises will take place leading up to the live fire burn on November 9

information released

Chelan Fire & Rescue (CFR) is set to conduct a controlled live fire training exercise at the former Apple Cup restaurant, located at 804 E Woodin Ave., on Saturday, November 9th, 2024.

These exercises will take place at a site that suffered significant fire damage on March 24, 2024, allowing for an invaluable training opportunity.

A Unique Training Opportunity

Thanks to Peterson’s generosity in donating the building, CFR has been granted access to the structure before its scheduled demolition. This collaboration enables CFR and neighboring agencies to engage in a realistic fire training environment featuring a live fire burn.

Comprehensive Training Exercises

In the weeks leading up to the live fire event, firefighters will engage in a variety of training scenarios within the structure, including:
• Forcible Entry Techniques
• Ventilation Methods
• Search and Rescue Exercises

The live fire exercise will culminate in real-world fire attack strategies conducted in a controlled setting. This will provide a unique opportunity for the community to witness these strategies in action, thereby enhancing the readiness and effectiveness of our firefighters.

Public Information

The live fire burn is scheduled to commence around 8:30 AM on November 9th and is anticipated to last between 4 to 5 hours. Here’s what the public can expect:
• The 800 Block of East Woodin Ave will be closed during this event and traffic will be diverted around this section of road to keep the public and firefighters safe.
• Crews will remain on standby throughout the event to protect surrounding structures, power lines, and other critical infrastructure, ensuring the safety and security of the community.
• The public will be welcome to attend and view this event in designated viewing areas near the training site.
• Please note that the exercise may be rescheduled if weather conditions are unfavorable.
