Temporary Weight Restrictions go into effect February 19
Information released by Chelan County Public Works
Temporary seasonal weight restrictions will go into effect on county roads in the Cashmere and Chelan road districts beginning Wednesday, Feb. 19.
Freight haulers should be mindful that restrictions also may go into effect in the other road districts in the coming days. The list of restricted roadways is updated frequently, so watch the Traffic Alerts and Restrictions page.
Seasonal snowmelt and runoff can soften roadways, potentially leading to costly damages. Temporary weight restrictions are put in place annually to protect the roadways from such damage. Only emergency vehicles, school buses or vehicles possessing a special permit issued by the County Engineer are exempt. Haulers may have to follow other restrictions, including time restrictions on the road.
The Traffic Alerts and Restrictions page has a list of the restricted roads as well as an interactive map. The free permit also is available on the website.
Haulers are reminded that applications must be in by 10 a.m. Monday through Thursday for approval for travel the following day. (If you need a permit on a Monday, the application must be in by 10 a.m. the previous Thursday.) Freight haulers who do not have a permit to travel on a weight-restricted road risk a fine as well as the cost of damages for any road repairs. The permit must be displayed in the lower righthand corner of the vehicle’s windshield.
If you aren’t sure if you require a permit, call the public works office at 509-667-6415.
