Tuesday was day 1 of the District 6 boys tennis tournament for the 1As and NCW Bs. This tournament is a qualifier for next week’s state tournament, with the top 4 moving on to Yakima Tennis Club.
Senior Rylen Moody won the CTL tournament this past Saturday, so he entered today as the #1 seed for the CTL, and took care of business. Rylen won his opener 6-1, 6-1 over Cavan Willard of Manson, and won his semifinal 6-3, 7-5 over Charlie Lyons of Cascade, which clinched him a state tourney berth. Rylen will play for the district championship on Thursday vs Trent Renslow of Entiat.
Seniors Ian Garfoot and Cray Silva opened their day with a convincing 6-1, 6-2 victory over Ortega and Northrup of Soap Lake, putting them in the semifinals vs #1 seeds Sackman and Kirk of Omak. Ian and Cray came up short in that semifinal 6-3, 6-2. Garfoot and Silva play a winner to state/loser out match vs Johnson/Peterson of Cascade on Thursday.
Senior George Neff extended his season yet again by coming up with a 2nd round win over Gavin Blank of Liberty Bell in comeback fashion, 1-6, 6-4, 5-0 (retired). George had lost his opening match to the Bs #1 seed Renslow of Entiat. George faces a winner to state/loser out match on Thursday vs Lyons of Cascade.
Matches on Thursday begin at 4:00 p.m. at Lake Chelan Shores.
