It will be early morning basketball for the Chelan Goats as they face the Tenino Beavers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at Wenatchee High School in the opening round of 16 teams in the 1-A State Basketball Tournament. Saturday’s game is a loser out contest with the winner advancing to play at the SunDome in Yakima with the final field of 12 beginning Wednesday, March 5.
Chelan, a member of the Caribou Trail League, enters state play as the 9th seeded team and will face 16th seeded Tenino, representing the Evergreen District in southwest Washington.
The Goats last played in a state tournament in 2015 when they were eliminated with a loss in the opening round of 16. Chelan last played in the full SunDome tournament in 2011.
With the game on Saturday, Chelan will be appearing in its 23rd state basketball tournament. The program has won two state championships with the last being in 1998. Chelan also won a 2-B Championship back in 1951. If Chelan wins on Saturday, they will play in Yakima on Wednesday against the loser of the contest between number one ranked Annie Wright and Bear Creek.
