Boys win and girls lose on Tuesday night

The Chelan boys opened play with an impressive win at Brewster by a score of 52–35. The first quarter proved to be a statement of intent for Chelan, as they raced to a formidable 16-3 lead. The Goats defense was able to put the Bears out of rhythm, allowing Chelan to capitalize on turnovers and convert them into crucial points.
Maintaining their momentum, Chelan entered the fourth quarter with a 40-28 advantage, firmly in control of the game. Despite the opponents’ efforts to close the gap, the Bears couldn’t overcome the deficit.
Senior standout Ryan Rainville delivered an outstanding performance, leading all scorers with an impressive 21 points while also contributing eight rebounds. Junior Kellen Reinhart added to the team’s success with 14 points and an impressive 15 rebounds, showcasing his abilities on both ends of the court.
Coach Callero expressed satisfaction with the team’s defensive efforts, praising their energy, hustle, and unselfish play. “The team played with great energy, hustle, and were very unselfish”
In the Girls varsity match up, Chelan fell to Brewster with a final score of 38-71. The first quarter set the tone for the game, with a first quarter score of 25-4 in favor of Brewster. Chelan faced a significant deficit but showed determination as they moved into the second quarter. The second quarter saw a slightly better performance from Chelan, as they managed to outscore Brewster 14-8. The halftime break provided an opportunity for Chelan to regroup and strategize for the remaining two quarters.
The third quarter unfolded with both teams trading baskets, but Brewster maintained their lead with a score of 13-11 in that period. Chelan’s defense began to tighten, and they found a rhythm on offense. The third quarter showed signs of a more evenly matched contest. In the fourth quarter, Chelan continued to fight back, outscoring Brewster 19-15. Despite their commendable effort in the closing minutes of the game, the early deficit proved too significant to overcome.
Individual standout performances from Chelan players included Brynn Hughbanks leading the scoring charge for Chelan with an impressive 20 points.. Lydia Petersen contributed 8 points, and Arabelle Finch added 6 points to the team’s total.
Coach Longmire added – “We came out tonight afraid to attack the hoop. Tonight’s game told us a lot about where our mental game is as a team and what we need to work harder at it in practice. We made a lot of simple mistakes that are instantly fixable. I am hopeful for our team as we have a lot of talent. We now need to translate it to game play.”
The Chelan Basketball teams will play their home openers on Friday, December 1 as they host the Ephrata Tigers. The girls varsity game starts at 5:45 pm and the boys game will follow. A reminder that the State Champion Volleyball team will be recognized during a halftime of the boys basketball game on Friday night.
