Cashmere Takes Both Varsity Games on their Home Court

by Dennis Rahm

For the second time in less than a week, Chelan and Cashmere met on the hardwood with the Bulldogs once again coming out on top in both girls and boys varsity action Friday night in Cashmere. The Lady Goats lost 75-34, while the boys ended up losing 85-73 despite leading by 13 points in the third quarter.

In the first game of the night, the Lady Bulldogs blitzed to a 33-5 lead at the end of the first quarter led by the hot shooting of Hailey Van Lith. Chelan found some offensive success in the second quarter but trailed 49-23 at the half with Van Lith scoring 26 points at the break.  Cashmere used a big third quarter to create even more separation and kept their undefeated CTL streak alive with their 8th league win. Van Lith led all scorers with 33 points while Chelan was led by the 18 points of sophomore Katie Rainville.

In the nightcap the boys once again played an exciting and close contest against Cashmere and just like last weeks game in Chelan, saw a double-digit lead in the second half disappear as the Bulldogs came roaring back to win a game that had a number of swings. Chelan trailed by double digits at the end of the first quarter but had a strong comeback in the second to take a two-point lead at halftime. The Goats would extend their lead to 13 points in the second half only to have sharpshooter Mason Landdeck of Cashmere lead a ferocious comeback as he scored a game high 43 points. Landdeck has scored 40-plus points in all three wins over Chelan this season. The Goats were led in scoring by the 20 points of Quinn Stamps while Connor Wilson and Cade Christopherson each scored 15 and Bert Mendevil chipped in with 12.

The next games for Chelan will be played Tuesday night at CHS as Okanogan comes to town for a CTL matchup. The girls play at 5:45 p.m. and the boys at 7:15 p.m.
