Stealth Enclosures Helped Maintain Visual Integrity for Several Years

by Dennis Rahm

The upgrading of the rooftop cell towers on top of the Chelan Museum this week was a very visible activity. A huge boom truck lifted large apparatus onto the roof in the middle of the day.

Turns out, an earlier version of the antennae have been living among us for several years.

Chelan City Administrator, Mike Jackson, confirmed that cell towers were installed on the roof of the museum years ago. Since they were wrapped in what is referred to as a “stealth enclosure” (see photo above) — few people noticed. He indicated that once installation is complete, a similar enclosure will again be utilized around the upgraded equipment to minimize visual impacts.

HDCA Executive Director and City Councilwoman, Erin McCardle, echoed Jackson’s information. She stated that the current process is to upgrade the equipment that was already there, noting “they are more observable right now but the coverings that camouflage the towers will be replaced.”
