On Thursday evening, the driver of a vehicle traveling on West Woodin Avenue in Lakeside accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake, accelerating into a table at the shaved ice patio that had several people sitting at it.
Crews from Chelan Fire & Rescue, Lake Chelan Community Hospital EMS, and Chelan County Sheriff’s office arrived at the scene to find the Lexus SUV had continued through the patio and off an embankment onto a GMC Yukon parked below before rolling over onto a parked truck, flipping and coming to rest upside down.
Chelan Fire & Rescue indicated a total of 4 patients were transported to Lake Chelan Community Hospital, including the driver of the vehicle. The most serious injury was a head injury to an adult female who was ultimately airlifted to Harborview Hospital in Seattle.
“It certainly could have been worse with all the people that were in the area,” said Chelan Fire & Rescue Chief Tim Lemon. “We were very fortunate.”
Early indications are a medical condition may have been a contributing factor, the investigation is ongoing.
