Cashmere sweeps Chelan in CTL Basketball
by Dennis Rahm
There’s always a special anticipation — a buzz if you will — anytime Chelan and Cashmere meet up on the hardwood. Before a packed house at Chelan High School on Saturday night, the visiting Bulldogs lived up to their rankings as amongst the best 1A teams in state.
In the first varsity game of the night, Cashmere took control early and never looked back in defeating the Lady Goats 58-25. Cashmere standout Hailey Van Lith led the way with a game high 25 points, which by the way was about 10 points below her season average. Cashmere would end with three of their players scoring in double figures while Chelan had none. The Lady Goats were led by the 7 points of senior Lexie Gleasman while Molly Oswald chipped in with 6 points. Cashmere remains undefeated in league play while Chelan drops 8-5 overall and 3-3 in CTL action dropping to third place.
It was a much closer contest in the second game of the night as Cashmere was able to overcome a 15-point second half deficit to defeat the Goats 76-70 in a game that had the gym rocking with excitement. Cashmere exploded for 34 points in the fourth quarter led by the outstanding play of sophomore Mason Landdeck who torched Chelan with a game high 47 points with 36 coming in the decisive second half. Despite the loss, the Goats played one of their better games of the season and nearly pulled off a major upset.
“Tonight was a great atmosphere in our gym,” said Chelan Coach Jeff Pearl. “It really epitomizes what high school basketball is all about.” Pearl went on to say he was pleased with his team’s effort, but disappointed they didn’t get the result they wanted.
Junior Connor Wilson and senior Quinn Stamps once again led Chelan. Wilson had a team high 31 points while Stamps recorded another double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Chelan’s season record drops to 7-7 overall and 1-5 in league.
The Chelan teams will be back in action on Tuesday night as they travel to Omak to take on the Pioneers.
