Gusty Winds Drove Brush Fire Quickly Upslope
Information and photo above released by Chelan Fire & Rescue
Tuesday, at 11:58 a.m., Chelan Fire and Rescue was dispatched to a reported brush fire along Highway 97A in the area of Davis Canyon above the Tunnel. On arrival, the fire was threatening two structures and being pushed up slope by 30 mph wind gusts.
A second alarm was quickly requested and crews from Chelan County Fire District #8 (Entiat), U.S. Forest Service, and Department of Natural Resources arrived to assist. The mostly rocky terrain helped slow the fire which was contained at 1.5 acres.
Chelan Fire and Rescue would like to remind all people doing controlled burns to monitor the wind conditions and to not burn on high wind days.
