Moody advances to state while Christopherson/Bordner claim alternate spot

The last of the boys’ District 6 1A/B qualifying matches for the state tournament took place at Lake Chelan Shores on Thursday.

For Chelan, junior Rylen Moody began the day with a high pressure match vs Charlie Lyons of Cascade which was winner to state – loser out.  Rylen was clutch, playing possibly his best tennis of the season in a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory over a quality opponent to clinch a state berth.  In his follow-up match for seeding, Rylen lost to Owen Painter of Okanogan 6-4, 6-2.
In boys doubles, Chelan’s Luke Christopherson and Sam Bordner were in the same boat, needing a victory to clinch a berth.  Unfortunately they fell to Hyer and Dearie of Quincy (the eventual 3rd place finishers) 2-6, 6-7.  In their follow-up match, Sam and Luke defeated Peterson and Willard of Manson to claim the alternate spot out of District 6.

Next up for the boys:  WIAA State Tournament in Yakima on Friday, May 26 and Saturday, May 27.

Next up for the girls:  CTL/NEA Crossover (winner to state, loser out) on Saturday, May 20 at Mead High School in Spokane.
