Water is Still High in Many Areas

Hot weather is in the long range forecast, which will complicate the high water status we are currently experiencing throughout North Central Washington.
It is expected we will face high water conditions through the end of May, which includes the visitor-intensive Memorial Day Weekend.
Warmer weather will make the water even more enticing – but officials urge the public to stay away from fast moving water and to use extreme caution with innocent-looking water over paths, trails or roadways which can be deceptively deep or slippery. If a sign indicates a trail is closed – detour safely around it.
Emergency Management cautions that even good swimmers can struggle in these cold, swift moving water conditions. Paddle-boarders, kayakers, inner-tubers etc. are encouraged to find placid waters to enjoy their recreational pursuits and to always wear a life jacket or flotation device.
Small children and pets are especially vulnerable to under currents and drop offs caused by high water.
The Sherrif’s Department has indicated that boaters may find increased debris in the water and reports that several boat launches and docks have been closed until they can be safely accessed. The Chelan County PUD website has updated reports on parks, trails and facilities that are closed or compromised by high water.
Their underlying message is a simple one: Be Cautious and Be Safe.
