Farm fresh foods benefit program runs June through October

information released

The Washington State Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is now accepting applications for the 2025 season.

The program runs from June 1 to October 31 and provides low-income seniors age 60 and older with benefit cards to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, honey and fresh-cut herbs from local growers at farmers markets throughout Washington state. Seniors approved for the program will receive a monthly benefit card that may be used to make purchases from participating vendors. The program is funded through a combination of United States Department of Agriculture grants and state and local funding.

According to the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services website, “Washington residents age 60 or older and Native Americans/Alaska Natives age 55 or older with a monthly income below 185% of the federal poverty level are eligible for SFMNP benefits.” Cards will be mailed to participants in early June.
