You’ve seen them as the color guard, proudly leading off parades in Chelan and Manson under the fluttering flag of the nation they served. Members of the Manson American Legion, Post 108, continue to serve…this time closer to home.

Manson American Legion is involved in their community. Their featured annual events are Memorial Day and Veterans Day celebrations at the American Legion Park on Highway 150. They work with the local schools promoting Boys State and Girls State where juniors in high school have an opportunity to participate in a week long immersion learning how our government works.

This past year Post 108 added all branches of the armed services flags to their park. Flags fly any weekend there is an event in Manson. They also participate with the Chelan VFW in an annual Veterans Appreciation Barbecue. Post 108 also helps those in need during the Christmas holidays with food baskets.

Veterans, First Responders and their families are invited to Birthday BBQ

The Manson American Legion, Post 108 is hosting an American Legion 100th Birthday Barbecue on Saturday – August 24th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Singleton Park. Veterans, first responders and their families are invited to their free event.

Manson Vice Commodore, Brian Strausbaugh (photo above) event organizer says, “The purpose of the event is to reach out to all veterans and first responders and thank them for their service to our country and community. We also want to make our community more informed about the American Legion and all the good work is does. We are planning an old fashion barbecue with all the goodies.”

People interested in participating with the Manson American Legion are encouraged to ask questions, visit their website, and considering attending one of their monthly meetings. The group meets the first Monday of the month, at 7:00 p.m. in the Manson Parks building, located at 142 Pedoi Street.

About the American Legion

The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization. Focusing on service to veterans, service members and communities, the Legion evolved from a group of war-weary veterans of World War I into one of the most influential nonprofit groups in the United States. Membership swiftly grew to over 1 million, and local posts sprang up across the country.

Today, membership stands at nearly 2 million in more than 13,000 posts worldwide. The posts are organized into 55 departments: one each for the 50 states, along with the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, France, Mexico and the Philippines.
