Chelan Athletes Score Big in Caribou Trail League

Caribou Trail League and Winter Sports awards were announced during the recent Winter Sports banquet held at the High School. Wrestling, boys basketball, girls basketball and the cheer team were all recognized during a short program hosted by Chelan Athletic Director Rob Rainville.
To no one’s surprise, the League Champion Chelan wrestlers dominated the ALL Caribou Trail League awards with 8 first place selections, 1 second team and 2 Honorable Mention. First place awards went to the Goats Jaidan Buyas at 120 pounds, James JC Austin in the 132-pound classification, Javier Pastor at 138, Erik Alcala at 152 pounds, Braden Williams at 160, Johnny Ayala in the 170 pound division, Skyler Gordon at 182 and Bryan Mendoza at 220. Earning 2nd team All-League was Obed Diaz at 170 pounds. Carlos Venegas at 126 pounds, Javier Mendoza at 132 and Adrian AJ Martinez at 220 pounds were all selected as Honorable Mention.
Also recognized were the Caribou Trail League girls and boys basketball All League selections. Junior Lexie Gleasman of the Lady Goats earned a second team award while for the boys Junior Quinn Stamps was selected to the second team and Sophomore Connor Wilson was awarded Honorable Mention.
Local fans will have the opportunity to watch spring sports teams in action this Saturday, March 17. In a boys baseball double header, the Goats will host Okanogan with games at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The girls softball team will also be in action at home on Saturday with two games. At 11:00 a.m. the Lady Goats take on Lynden Christian and then match up against Kittitas at 1:00 p.m. The Chelan Tennis team is also at home on Saturday versus Ephrata at 11:00 a.m.
