information released
Congratulations to José Fernández and Ashlyn Nicolson on being selected as Manson School District’s 2025 Blue & White Excellence Award winners! The Manson Board of Directors announced the winners at its March 24 board meeting.
Nominations recognized school district employees who had made “a significant contribution to the lives of students, staff, and the greater Manson community.”

José Fernández
José has worked at Manson schools since 2021 and is a technology assistant/ computer technician with the district. In the course of his employment, José has been asked to take on a variety of roles, which he handled with aplomb, and he approaches technology issues with curiosity and a commitment to resolving them.
He was nominated for “helping (students) with all tech issues, which allows them to continue being successful in their learning. He is so soft-spoken and kind-hearted, which makes the kids feel at ease when it comes to asking him for assistance.”
Another submission noted that “José is someone I always look forward to seeing on campus. I am not alone, because everyone seems to smile when they see him coming. He is kind, helpful, always prompt, and professional. We are lucky to have him in our tech department.”

Ashlyn Nicolson
Ashlyn was hired in 2022 and serves as the seventh and eighth-grade social studies and language arts teacher.
One nominator noted her exceptional dedication to her students and her ability to create a positive, engaging, and supportive learning environment. “Her understanding of students and her ability to connect with them through humor make her a beloved teacher and a trusted safe place for her students. At the beginning of the school year, several students expressed their dislike for reading. However, through Ashlyn’s creative approach incorporating fun games and interactive activities these same students are now engaged and excited about reading. Her commitment to understanding her students ensures that they receive the extra help and time they need when struggling with assignments, fostering both academic growth and confidence.”
One student wrote, “Mrs. Nicholson is so understanding, and she is someone I can go to if I feel sad.”
