Carter is 22-year veteran of the Orondo Fire Department, including 9 as Captain

Fire Captain Scott Carter has been awarded the Medal of Valor by the Orondo Fire Department in recognition of recent life-saving firefighting efforts.

During the day of July 13, 2024, Captain Carter responded to an auto accident on US 97 four miles north of Orondo. On arrival he found a serious two vehicle head on collision, both vehicles on fire, with occupants in immediate danger of engulfment. Captain Carter was able to pull fire hose from his apparatus and single handedly keep the flames at bay until additional fire apparatus and firefighters arrived to extricate the patient and fully extinguish the vehicles on fire. Two patients were transported to the hospital with a third sadly losing their life.

In 2024, Orondo Fire implemented a new floating Battalion Chief position. Each of the five fire captains and lieutenants rotate through weekly shifts staffing a fire brush truck / rescue at their residence. When a call is toned this provides for quick response. On arrival the Battalion Chief asses the call, orders additional resources, slows fire growth or performs life saving medical care. Captain Carter was staffing the Battalion Chief position at the time of this call making for a quick response arriving to perform life saving firefighting efforts.

Captain Carter is a 22-year veteran with Orondo Fire Department serving as Captain for nine years. He has been instrumental in many advancements at the Department including Orondo Fire’s Live Fire Training Facility, Beebe Fire Station construction effort among many projects. When not serving as a firefighter, Captain Carter enjoys spending time in aviation.
